Our Revolution is proud to endorse Aber Kawas for New York State Senate District 12 — a community organizer and democratic socialist who has spent more than 15 years fighting alongside working-class New Yorkers. The daughter of Palestinian refugees and raised in a working-class New York City family, Aber’s politics are deeply rooted in her own experience. When she was young, her father was detained by ICE and deported. Her family struggled to make ends meet while he was detained — an experience Aber says shaped her commitment to building power for poor and working people. And she has spent years putting that commitment into action. Aber has organized in the Fight for $15, fought police surveillance and harassment, worked for immigration reform, and helped develop and launch the Not On Our Dime campaign. Now, she’s running to bring that organizing experience to Albany.
