Alex is running for state representative to bring next-generation, people-first leadership focused on safer communities, working families, and a government that actually listens.

Alex Hawkins is a Democrat running for his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 55th District. Hawkins is a U.S. Army veteran and an active National Guard Explosive Ordnance Disposal officer. He has also worked in congress serving under Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin and Senator Gary Peters. Hawkins' priorities are built around the idea that too many families feel the system is not working for them, and he pledges steady, pragmatic leadership that puts people over politics. On education, he wants classrooms to come first rather than politics or bureaucracy, backing teachers, protecting public schools, and ensuring every student has the support and opportunities to succeed. He argues public safety starts with prevention, and would fight for mental health services, violence prevention, and resources that keep neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces safe. On the economy, he says working people are doing everything right and still falling behind, and he would stand up to powerful special interests, crack down on rigged systems, and lower the everyday costs hitting families hardest. He also calls for government accountability through real transparency and a government that answers to the people rather than lobbyists or insiders. Hawkins has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Equality Michigan Action Network, Michigan AFL-CIO, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan Association for Justice, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan. Hawkins is running against Republican incumbent Mark Tisdel who voted against repealing the 1931 Michigan law that banned abortion and he supported the overturning of Roe V. Wade. Tisdel also voted against a bill that would ban conversion therapy for minors. Alex Hawkins is the most progressive choice in this race.
