EMILYs List recruits, trains and supports Democratic pro-choice women candidates at every level of the ballot. By helping to elect these women to office in 2025 and 2026, we’re not only building a foundation for the future, but we’re also putting strong women in charge of decisions that affect women and families every day — from the legislators who write laws to the attorneys general who defend and enforce them to the secretaries of state who ensure access to the ballot.

The State House elections in Kansas are scheduled on November 3, 2026. Voters will elect candidates to serve in the House from each of the state's House districts. The primary is August 4, 2026. The filing deadline is June 1, 2026. There is 1 Democratic primary candidate so far:

Allison Hougland is a real estate agent, mom, grandma, and lifelong Olathean whose family roots in the district go back to 1859, when her great-great grandparents settled there after being forced out of Missouri for their anti-slavery beliefs.
*She supports a three-pronged approach: reducing the residential property tax assessment rate from 11.5% to 9%, restoring the Local Ad Valorem Tax Reduction Fund to send dollars back to local governments, and raising the residential property exemption for the school mill levy from $40,000 to $65,000 — particularly to protect residents on fixed incomes.
*She supports Medicaid expansion, noting that Kansas has already forfeited an estimated $3 billion in federal funds that could have helped save rural hospitals and provided healthcare to 130,000 Kansans, including 40,000 children. She is equally clear that mental healthcare and reproductive healthcare are healthcare, full stop.
*She wants to fully fund public schools so Kansas families can thrive, not just get by.
*She is passionate about ending homelessness, which drives both her career as a realtor and her public service.
