Analilia Mejia is a progressive leader who will fight, not fold. The daughter of immigrants, Analilia Mejia has seen the transformative power a union job can have for working families. It was her mother’s union job as a garment worker that allowed her family to achieve the kind of stability that let Mejia attend Rutgers University. After graduation, Mejia became a union organizer herself. She would later go on to be the Director of the New Jersey Working Families Alliance, where she fought for the right to paid sick leave, a millionaire tax, and raising the minimum wage. Eventually, Analilia served as the National Political Director on Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, and was later appointed Deputy Director of the United States Women’s Bureau in the US Department of Labor.

Throughout her tenure in office, she’s pushed to limit access to weapons of war that have flooded our nation’s streets, strengthen background checks, support survivors of gun violence, regulate dangerous ghost guns, strengthen safe storage requirements, and take steps to support lifesaving community-based intervention programs that are proven to interrupt cycles of violence.

After a nail-biter vote count and being vastly outspent by big-money, establishment-backed opponents, Analilia Mejia has won the Democratic primary for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District. She beat the machine. She beat the money. She won with people power. From the beginning, Our Revolution proudly endorsed Analilia because she represents exactly the kind of bold, grassroots leadership our movement exists to elect. A former union organizer, she helped win a $15 minimum wage and paid sick days, and later as National Political Director for Bernie Sanders’ 2020 campaign, she helped build a nationwide movement to un-rig the economy and take on corporate power. Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez endorsed Analilia in this race, and Bernie joined her for a rally on MLK Day as part of his Fight Oligarchy Tour. That movement energy carried her across the finish line against opponents backed by massive outside spending and political insiders.

fearless leadership to restore our nation.

I am the daughter of Colombian and Dominican immigrants — a Jersey
girl raised by a strong family who survived hardship with
determination, grit, and deep love. I'm the daughter of a seamstress
and a factory worker who taught me that none of us make it alone and
we owe our best to each other.

I've spent my entire life fighting for working families like ours.
Here in New Jersey, I helped lead the fights for a $15 minimum wage,
paid sick leave, and a millionaire's tax — and we won every one of
those battles. I was a union organizer and I led the Working Families
Party statewide where I learned the incredible force organized
everyday people can be. I served as National Political Director for
Bernie Sanders' 2020 presidential campaign. And under the Biden
Administration, I was Deputy Director of the Women's Bureau at the
Department of Labor. Today, I serve as Co-Executive Director of
Popular Democracy, helping communities across the country push back
against Trump and fight to restore the promise of a just democracy.

Community organizer and former Policy Director for Bernie Sanders during his presidential run, Analilia Mejia has fought for racial, economic, and immigrant justice, including campaigns for workers’ rights, affordable housing, criminal justice reform, voting access, and public services. She supports conditioning US military aid to Israel in order to end the Gaza genocide. After the US military strikes on Venezuela, she called it “an illegal act of war,” saying that “bombing another country and seizing its president is reckless, dangerous, and risks dragging us into another endless conflict.”
