Incumbent Rep. Brandy Donaghy is running for a third term representing Position 1 in the 44th Legislative District. She was appointed to the House by the Snohomish County Council in late 2021, when former Rep. John Lovick moved to the Senate, and was elected by voters in 2022. She is a Navy veteran and community organizer who has been involved in emergency preparedness training.
In her first term, Donaghy sponsored legislation establishing safe staffing levels for health care workers to improve the health and safety of patients and practitioners. This year, she sponsored legislation to reduce the record-high number of recent driving deaths by reinvesting speeding fines from traffic cameras into road safety improvements. With speeding being the second most common risk factor in fatal crashes in our state, Donaghy hopes to save lives on the road. She was also the prime sponsor of a bill establishing consistent training and resources for paraeducators across school districts, helping educators better teach and support their students.
More recently, Donaghy voted in support of many progressive priorities, including rent stabilization, gun safety measures, and the historic Millionaires Tax, which will help the state provide free school lunches and expand access to the Working Families Tax Credit. She also co-sponsored the House bill to prohibit law enforcement agents from wearing face masks, in response to federal overreach in immigration enforcement practices that led to the murders of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.
Donaghy has earned your vote for another term in the House representing Legislative District 44.
