Candace Calloway is a native Detroiter, born and raised on Detroit’s west side. She is a homeowner in Detroit and believes in better educational outcomes and affordable community investments. Post-college, Candace served with the AmeriCorps program, City Year, and as an Academic Interventionist in Detroit. Candace has experience in urban stormwater and aging infrastructure with The Nature Conservancy. She is a champion for investment that prioritizes small businesses and the community.

Candace Calloway is a Democrat running for her first term in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 5th District. Calloway works in construction for the City of Detroit and previously served with AmeriCorps's City Year and as an Academic Interventionist with Detroit Public Schools. She has tackled infrastructure and stormwater issues with The Nature Conservancy, founded The Black Pack in 2024 to boost Black employment in outdoor and conservation jobs, and belongs to the Detroit Association of Women's Clubs and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She graduated from Andover High School and earned a Bachelor's in Applied Health Sciences from Bowling Green State University.

Calloway has built her campaign around three priorities: making everyday costs more manageable for working families, improving educational outcomes for Michigan's students, and investing in safe infrastructure that strengthens communities. She frames these as connected goals, arguing that affordable living, strong schools, and dependable roads and public spaces go hand in hand in building healthier neighborhoods.

Calloway has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan.

Calloway is running against Republican Chris Venable, who has no online campaign presence as of September 1, 2026.
