The Texas legislature eliminated the district of House Progressive Caucus Chairman Greg Casar and carved out a new 35th district where Donald Trump got more than 54 percent of the vote in 2024.
The GOP nomination went to President Trump's endorsed candidate, first-time office seeker Carlos De La Cruz — the brother of Rep. Monica De La Cruz.
Carlos De La Cruz impressed in a campaign that introduced him to voters as a Native Texan, Air Force veteran, small businessman, and proven conservative. De La Cruz told RJC he felt a duty as a Christian to support Israel against Iran and other genocidally minded enemies.
The Democrats' TX-35 nominee Johnny Garcia has been endorsed by J Street. Anyone interested in locking down the gains from Trump's mid-decade redistricting has a stake in this race.
