Claudia Balducci is running unopposed for re-election to King County Council, District 6. First elected in 2004, Balducci previously served as the mayor of Bellevue and served 12 years on the Bellevue City Council. She is the founder and chair of the Regional Affordable Housing Committee and a board member of the King County Regional Homelessness Authority. In nearly two decades of public service, Balducci has prioritized progressive solutions to the issues facing our region, including improving transportation options, promoting affordable housing, enhancing community safety, implementing climate solutions, and supporting arts and culture. Her track record is strong in all of these areas, including an arts levy to invest in science, heritage, arts, and cultural organizations, as well as legislation to keep “forever chemicals” out of our local environment. Balducci is an impressive progressive champion who has been a leader on a wide range of issues and during her time on the council she has diligently delivered results on safe and accessible streets, mental health facilities, and protections from the MAGA regime. She has secured landmark investments in affordable housing and homelessness. She was a tenacious advocate for opening the East Link light rail early while Sound Transit fixed shoddy construction errors on the floating bridge. Her leadership delivered light rail service to hundreds of thousands of riders ahead of the full crosslake expansion that opened this year. Balducci has been a strong and effective leader on the King County Council and has more than earned your vote to serve another term.
