Dan Pelchat is a Democrat running for his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 49th District. Pelchat is a lifelong resident of his district, the former mayor of South Lyon, and a public school technology professional.
Pelchat's priorities start with protecting democracy, which he argues only works when every eligible voter can participate, and he supports the right to vote, fair and secure elections, and state control over elections. Public education is personal for him as the husband of a public school teacher and a longtime school district employee, and he would push for strong Pre-K through 12 funding, career and technical training, adult education, and the resources teachers and students need. On infrastructure, he points to his time as mayor, when he helped pass an $18.4 million bond in South Lyon, and he would keep fighting for safer roads and smart local investment. He also strongly supports a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions, and backs policies protecting Michigan's clean water, clean air, and open spaces for future generations.
Pelchat is running against Republican incumbent Ann Bollin who is endorsed by the anti-reproductive freedom organization Right to Life Michigan and the right-wing organization Citizens for Traditional Values.
Dan Pelchat is the most progressive choice in this race.
