Rep. Darya Farivar is running for re-election for the 46th Legislative District, Position 2. She has worked as the public policy director at Disability Rights Washington, an organization that provides free services to people with disabilities and protects their rights statewide. Farivar has also served as co-chair of the Seattle Women's Commission, policy chair of the State Special Education Advisory Council, and a board member of Peyvand, which supports Iranian students at UW. Throughout her first two terms, Farivar has been a tireless advocate for progressive policies and underrepresented communities. She has been a consistent and vocal leader on a number of pressing issues, such as immigration, housing, and gun violence. This year, she introduced a bill to help communities create publicly owned grocery stores, in light of the Fred Meyer closure in Lake City. With grocery store closures becoming more frequent, this bill will help us avoid creating food deserts in underserved areas. Farivar has also been a leader in addressing gun violence across the state, co-sponsoring legislation to introduce gun safety measures. She co-sponsored a bill to prohibit the manufacture and sale of ghost guns and voted in favor of requiring gun dealers to have surveillance cameras. Farivar is a reliable progressive voice in the Legislature, advocating for our most vulnerable community members. We recommend re-electing her to serve another term representing the 46th Legislative District in the state House.
