Walla Walla School Board President Derek Sarley is challenging Republican incumbent Skyler Rude for the Washington State House. Sarley served on the Walla Walla School Board for the last decade, including four years as board president.
Sarley's platform prioritizes public education, affordability, and free market policies. Using his background and experience on the Walla Walla School Board, Sarley advocates for classroom safety, mental health support, and giving educators the tools they need to deliver a high quality education. He is supportive of reducing outdated barriers to increase the desperately needed housing supply across the state. With increased threats to our healthcare system, Sarley hopes to push back against predatory healthcare practices that inflate costs and decrease medical access. Additionally, he hopes to hold corporations accountable for their monopolistic practices that squeeze out small businesses. His approach to small business support is a bit more moderate, citing the pressures of new taxes and regulations without specifying how he intends to reduce costs for businesses and strengthen local economies.
If elected, Derek Sarley would flip this seat in the House, serving as a Democratic voice in the 16th Legislative District. We believe he would make a good choice for voters seeking to advance progress in Washington.
