Vancouver City Council member Diana Perez is challenging Republican incumbent David Stuebe to represent the 17th Legislative District in the state House. Perez is a first-generation college graduate and moved to the Pacific Northwest to start her career as a wildlife biologist. She is also the founder of the local League of United Latin American Citizens. Perez has been highly active and awarded in the community for her civil rights and policy work. She was appointed by Gov. Inslee as a commissioner for Washington State Parks and Recreation and serves as a board member of the Clark County Volunteer Lawyers Program, which provides law clinics for underserved communities.

Perez has been a consistent progressive voice on the Vancouver City Council. Her current campaign focuses on improving affordability for families, enhancing public safety, and advancing affordable energy policies. She supports encouraging density near transit and investing in building affordable homes to increase our dwindling supply of workforce and middle-income housing. Perez's approach to public safety includes solutions beyond just increasing law enforcement, focusing on prevention programs to reduce crime and strengthening wildfire response. She also hopes to modernize and expand our energy grid while ensuring that energy prices do not disproportionately burden working families.
