Dylan Wegela is an incumbent Democrat running for re-election to the Michigan House of Representatives for his third term representing the 26th District. Wegela grew up in Southeast Michigan in a working class family and spent nearly a decade working as a teacher, union organizer, and activist. He taught history in South Korea, Arizona, and Michigan.
Since taking office in January 2023, Dylan Wegela has built a record centered on labor and consumer protections. He introduced legislation in 2026 establishing a "Right to Sit" requirement for employers to provide suitable seating to workers whose jobs can be done seated, and requiring employers to display information about protected labor rights. In 2024, he announced legislation aimed at curbing the political influence of Michigan's state-regulated utility companies, and he spoke out publicly against the transportation of radioactive waste into Michigan. Early in his first term, he drew attention for breaking with fellow Democrats by voting against a roughly $1.5 billion business tax incentive deal, holding firm to a pledge against sending taxpayer money to corporations even under pressure from legislative leaders and the governor's office. He has also pledged not to accept donations from utility companies.
Wegela's priorities include education, raising the minimum wage, health care, Medicare for All, support for seniors, environmental protection, gun reform, protecting labor unions, preschool for all, criminal justice reform, reforming Michigan's tax structure, protecting LGBTQ+ civil rights, and infrastructure. He frames much of his agenda around worker power and corporate accountability, arguing that wealth is created by workers and that campaign finance and transparency reforms are needed to curb the influence of dark money in elections and government.
Wegela has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan Association for Justice, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan
Wegela is running against Republican Chris Dobis.
Dylan Wegela is the most progressive choice in this race.

As a teachers’ union president, Dylan helped lead a massive strike that won a $400 million investment in public schools. Now he’s fighting to tax the rich, grow union power, expand affordable housing, and get corporate money out of politics.
