Eli Northrup is a public defender, policy advocate, and community leader who has spent his career fighting for justice and standing up for people. As Policy Director for the Criminal Defense Practice at The Bronx Defenders, Eli has helped lead efforts in Albany to protect due process, expand opportunities for people with criminal records, and reform New York’s criminal justice system. Now the Democratic and Working Families Party nominee for AD-69, Eli is running on a bold affordability agenda that includes universal childcare, universal healthcare, more affordable housing, stronger tenant protections, and making corporations and the wealthiest New Yorkers pay their fair share.

Freshmen legislators include Eli Northrup and Vanessa Aronson, both starting their first terms in the Assembly in 2027. Both will represent parts of Upper Manhattan, Northrup on the West Side and Aronson on the East Side, with their districts covering parts of the borough that have produced very little affordable housing over the past decade. Encouragingly, they both committed in our Voter Guide questionnaire to deliver real progress on our housing affordability crisis. Aronson is a former public school teacher and Northrup is a public defender: both understand the value of service and the roles state systems play in providing or preventing individual flourishing.
