UAW endorses Gerry Pollet for House of Representatives in Washington’s 46th District. Pollet is a faculty member at the University of Washington, and a union member and Instructor at Western Washington University. Pollet has consistently supported locals 4121 and 4929 throughout his time as a professor and legislator, including by successfully organizing fellow faculty members and legislators in support of UAW 4929 members during their strike. He is a consistent voice for pro-worker policies. Further, Pollet is a long-time champion of higher education funding, working to expand the Washington College grant and cut through the barriers to post-secondary education for working class Washingtonians. Rep. Gerry Pollet is running for re-election to the 46th Legislative District, House Position 1. He is the executive director of Heart of America Northwest, a group devoted to cleaning up the Hanford Nuclear site. Pollet's background as an attorney and educator has enhanced his policy work on climate change, equitable education, and government transparency. In the Legislature, Pollet has been a reliable vote for protecting the environment and improving education. In 2024, he sponsored bills that will mandate and fund the purchases of zero-emission school buses, reduce lead in cookware, and provide consumer protections in the solar energy market. In previous years, he also sponsored a bill to require the state to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero by 2050, as well as bills to reduce school class sizes and offer free community college. Pollet continues to vote on progressive revenue, helping pass both the Capital Gains Tax and Millionaires Tax bills. His votes on environmental protections and labor rights have also earned him 100% scores from Washington Conservation Action and the Washington State Labor Council. In the past, Pollet has been an obstacle to important housing affordability legislation. However, we were pleased to see that in recent years he took more favorable votes on housing affordability, such as requiring the promotion of transit-oriented housing developments and rent stabilization. Gerry Pollet has earned the most endorsements from our progressive partners, making him our recommendation in this race. If he is re-elected, we hope that he will continue to make progress in housing affordability as our supply and access becomes more dire in Washington.
