Representative Ya Liu has dedicated her career to public service, education, and expanding opportunity for North Carolina families. An attorney, sociologist, and former professor, Liu brings a unique combination of legal expertise, academic research, and local government experience to the General Assembly. Before her election to the North Carolina House of Representatives, she served on the Cary Town Council, where she worked to support one of the state’s fastest growing and most diverse communities. In 2024, she made history as the first Chinese American woman elected to the North Carolina General Assembly.
Liu’s career reflects a lifelong commitment to helping communities thrive through thoughtful policymaking and civic engagement. Drawing on her experience as both an educator and public servant, she has championed policies that strengthen public education, support small businesses, improve infrastructure, and expand economic opportunity. Her leadership is grounded in the belief that government works best when it listens to the people it serves and when every community has a meaningful voice in shaping public policy.
NCAAT in Action is proud to endorse Representative Ya Liu because she embodies the promise of a more inclusive North Carolina. Her groundbreaking election, commitment to public service, and dedication to representing all her constituents demonstrate the importance of ensuring Asian American voices are represented at every level of government. She continues to inspire the next generation of civic leaders while working to build stronger communities across our state.
