Jaelynn Scott is running to represent the 37th Legislative District in the state House following Rep. Chipalo Street's vacancy. Scott is the executive director of the Lavender Rights Project, an organization dedicated to the liberation of and justice for Black, Trans, and gender-expansive people, and has spent her career working to build communities where everyone can live with dignity and belonging. If elected, Scott would be the first openly transgender legislator in Washington state history. Scott is running a progressive campaign as a Democratic Socialist. Drawing on her own lived experience, her campaign addresses the gaps in our social safety net that have left our most vulnerable community members to survive broken systems on their own. Scott's campaign is focused on housing, safety, and environmental justice, taking an intersectional approach to the district's most pressing issues. She declared housing to be a human right and hopes to implement the Chief Seattle Club/Lavender Rights Project model to invest in affordable housing with included wraparound services across the state. Scott takes a balanced and inclusive approach to public safety, incorporating methods for prevention programs, protecting data privacy, expanding crisis response, and increasing police accountability. Scott's campaign has quickly amassed progressive endorsements both local and national, including from Representative Pramila Jayapal and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.
