His election would strengthen Arab representation in the State House, which currently includes one Arab lawmaker, Farhat. Jalal Abdallah is a Democrat running for his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 15th District. He was born and raised in his district by immigrant parents, attended the University of Michigan - Dearborn for undergrad and Cooley Law School for his law degree. and currently works as a criminal defense and personal injury attorney.

Abdallah is running against Republican Hassan Nehme who currently serves as the Coalition Vice Chair for the Michigan Republican Party. Nehme is endorsed by the right-wing organization Citizens for Traditional Values.
