Jason Hoskins is running for his first term in the Michigan Senate. He is in his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Born and raised on the east side of Detroit, Hoskins is the son of two union workers. Before his election to the House, Hoskins served on the Southfield City Council, where he worked on issues relating to economic development and small business.
He has also worked as a legislative aide and professor.
The first openly LGBTQ+ Black state representative, Hoskins was instrumental in amending the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to protect LGBTQ+ Michiganders from discrimination in housing and employment. He also sponsored Michigan’s ban on conversion therapy. He played a key role in developing the Michigan Innovation Fund, which supports underrepresented entrepreneurs and local economies.
If elected to the Senate, he hopes to continue his work on economic development, civil rights, healthcare, housing, education, and protecting our democracy.
Hoskins has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: Equality Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan Association for Justice, and meets criteria for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, the Committee to Protect Health Care, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan.
