Jason Morgan is an incumbent Democrat running for his third term to the Michigan House of Representatives to represent the 23rd District. Morgan was raised in Pinconning, Michigan and he is a first generation college graduate. He graduated from Northern Michigan University with Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and he continued his education at University of Michigan where he earned a Master’s of Public Administration. Prior to being elected to the Michigan House of Representatives he served as a Washtenaw County Commissioner for six years and served as the county’s first LGBTQ+ chair. Morgan has a strong history of community service and leadership in a variety of areas, including holding senior staff positions for multiple members of Congress and Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
Morgan's legislative tenure has centered on public transit, which he's championed as founder and co-chair of the Legislature's bipartisan Public Transit Caucus. He's also worked on reproductive rights, introducing a resolution to codify protections, and on LGBTQ+ issues, including leading a public reading of a Pride Month resolution after Republican pushback. He has had budget wins like stabilizing Medicaid funding and expanding mental health care capacity, including a new state psychiatric hospital. He also co-sponsored legislation aimed at curbing the University of Michigan's unilateral land purchases in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
Morgan's priorities span education, the environment, health care, and worker rights. On education, he wants equitable K-12 funding, free community college, and greater university investment. On the environment, he backs carbon-neutral infrastructure, cleanup of contamination like PFAS, and polluter-pay legislation. On health care, he supports a public insurance option and more state funding for public and mental health services to address disparities. He also wants to invest in roads, water systems, and broadband, defend voting rights, advance LGBTQ+ protections and racial equity, protect and codify reproductive rights; push for gun safety measures like background checks and red flag laws, and strengthen worker rights through union support and collective bargaining.
Morgan has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Equality Michigan Action Network, Michigan AFL-CIO, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan Association for Justice, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan.
Morgan is running against Republican Miriam Corvino, who has shared election fraud conspiracy theories on her personal Facebook page.
Jason Morgan is the most progressive choice in this race.
