Jeanine Couto is the North Carolina Green Party's candidate for Guildford County Commissioner, District 3. Jeanine is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Portuguese at Winston-Salem State University, Department of World Languages and Cultures, and has been serving as the Interim Chairperson of the Department since 2025. Jeanine is a native of Brazil and a dual citizen of Brazil and the U.S.A. Jeanine graduated from UNC in 2006 with a Ph.D in Comparative Literature. She decided to make Guildford County her permanent home in 2006, when she accepted a position at UNCG teaching Portuguese and Spanish. She has also taught Spanish at Bennet College and A&T, and English as an Additional Language at Guilford Technical Community College-GTCC. Further, she considers community work an essential part of her carrier. Jeanine wants to address several issues in Guilford County. Among these are the problems of affordable housing in a state that seems to build homes only for millionaires.
