Throughout his tenure in Congress, he’s fought to advance numerous gun violence prevention bills that Republicans have blocked at every turn—even signing discharge petitions to force a vote on crucial legislation to ban assault weapons, expand background checks to every firearm sale, require gun owners to safely store their weapons and ban the sale of large-capacity ammunition feeding devices.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez has been a supporter of the U.S.-Israel relationship throughout his five terms representing central Los Angeles. Gomez backed supplemental security assistance for the Jewish state, and he cosponsored bills that extend restrictions on Iran’s ballistic missile program and sanction foreign ports and refineries that process Iranian oil.

Incumbent

Jimmy Gomez is running for re-election to Congress in California’s 34th District. He won the primary with 46% of the vote on June 2. In 2024, he won the general election with 56% of the vote. This is his fifth term. Before coming to Congress, he served in the California State Assembly (2012-2017) and was a union organizer with AFSCME CA and United Nurses Association of California. He is a fierce advocate for renters and working families. He is a member of Committee on Ways and Means and the Congressional Freethought Caucus. Rep. Gomez is Catholic and an ally of our community.
