Incumbent Director Julie Wise is running unopposed for her fourth term serving as King County’s director of elections. Wise has worked in elections since 2000 and as the county’s director since 2015. In her terms, she has brought innovative community services to the offices that have advanced civic education and voter participation. Wise remains a reliable director who prioritizes accessibility and the protection of our electoral processes. In the past, she led progress in the county elections office, instituting the Voter Education Fund (a public-philanthropic partnership), providing prepaid postage on ballots, introducing new language options, and adding 65 new ballot drop-off locations. Her work included navigating targeted misinformation against mail-in voting and rebuilding community trust in the accuracy of election results. Wise has won numerous awards for her leadership in this office, which will continue to be essential in protecting elections from infringement and attacks from the current federal administration. Her experience will serve the county well as Seattle adopts ranked choice voting for the first time in 2027.
