Kelli J. Van Ginhoven is running for her first term in the Michigan State Senate after serving on the Delta County Board of Commissioners since 2024.

A lifelong resident of Escanaba, Van Ginhoven graduated from Escanaba High School and Bay Community College. Before opening a cupcake bakery in downtown Escanaba, worked in a preschool and at a credit union. As a county commissioner, she serves on committees and boards that deal with materials management, solid waste, emergency management, the opioid crisis, and other issues.

Van Ginhoven’s priorities include supporting unions; investing in education; promoting clean energy; and expanding access to healthcare and housing.

Van Ginhoven has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: Equality Michigan, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan Association for Justice, and meets criteria for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan.

Van Ginhoven’s opponent in this race is David Prestin. Prestin espouses right-wing views on many issues and has developed a conservative voting record throughout his time in the legislature, opposing bills that have expanded the rights of workers, women, and voters. Prestin has also been endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan, an anti-choice organization.
