EMILYs List recruits, trains and supports Democratic pro-choice women candidates at every level of the ballot. By helping to elect these women to office in 2025 and 2026, we’re not only building a foundation for the future, but we’re also putting strong women in charge of decisions that affect women and families every day — from the legislators who write laws to the attorneys general who defend and enforce them to the secretaries of state who ensure access to the ballot.

Kristy Janigo is the collaborative partner Senate District 37 deserves. She understands how to use environmental sustainability to protect our future and create jobs. She’s the proven leader that Minnesota needs right now!

Kristy Janigo is a Maple Grove City Councilmember, Army veteran, and lifelong public servant running for the Minnesota Senate in District 37. Raised in small towns in North Dakota by a family of educators and public servants, Kristy learned early the value of hard work, strong communities, and service to others. She enlisted in the North Dakota Army National Guard at 17 and served for six years, including during the post-9/11 era, continuing a proud family tradition of military service. Kristy has dedicated her career to helping others, particularly veterans. As a county veterans service officer, she works every day to help homeless and justice-involved veterans access housing, healthcare, and the benefits they have earned. She has also been a leading legislative advocate for veterans at the State Capitol, successfully working with lawmakers of both parties to pass meaningful legislation and expand support for veterans and their families. Elected to the Maple Grove City Council in 2022, Kristy has focused on strengthening public safety, investing in infrastructure, and improving transparency and trust in government. She brings a bipartisan, solutions-oriented approach to her work and is committed to delivering results that improve people’s lives. Kristy holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and has experience in both the private sector and higher education. She lives in Maple Grove and remains deeply committed to serving her community.
