Mai VangMai Vang

She’s a working-class champion who knows firsthand what it means to struggle — and to fight for a government that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few. From taking on corporate landlords to standing up for clean air, living wages, and affordable housing, Mai has led courageously on the issues that matter most to working families.

As an educator, organizer, and Sacramento City Councilmember, Mai Vang has shown what it looks like to fight for working families, immigrant communities, and young people, not corporate donors and lobbyists.
While establishment politicians make empty promises about reform, Mai Vang is taking real action. And she’s doing it without taking corporate PAC money, because our democracy shouldn’t be for sale.

Mai Vang is the daughter of Hmong refugees who fled the war in Laos and moved to Sacramento. The oldest of 16 children, Mai became a community organizer after college, was elected to the School Board in 2016, and has served on the Sacramento City Council since 2020. Her anti-war stances are personal. “My family fled the CIA’s Secret War in Laos as Hmong refugees. I carry the memory of what happens when our government chooses war over diplomacy: families torn apart and trauma that haunts generations. Today, as conflict devastates communities from Gaza to Iran to Ukraine to Sudan, our mission must be to protect life—not fund its destruction. We need a representative who refuses to profit from the industries fueling this violence. I will fight to redirect our tax dollars from endless wars abroad into healthcare and housing here at home.”
