Mai Xiong is an incumbent Democrat running for her second full term in the Michigan House of Representatives for the 13th District. Xiong came to the U.S. from Thailand as a refugee when she was three years old and was the first in her family to have a full public school education. In 2020 the residents of Warren elected her to serve as the first Asian-American and former refugee on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners.

As State Representative, Xiong secured a range of investments to help Michigan families get ahead. On education, that includes free breakfast and lunch for all public school students, $501 million for student literacy, reading, tutoring, and LETRS training, and tuition-free two-year college for all high school graduates and adults. She also directed funding toward local communities: $5 million for the Tri-Share Childcare Affordability Program, $875,000 for City of Warren 911 dispatch training and equipment, $500,000 for the St. Clair Shores Library renovation, and $800,000 for a Roseville Schools science facility.

Xiong’s priorities center on respect and investment across the community: standing up for senior citizens, championing workers' rights, and investing in infrastructure. She backs teachers and classrooms, supports funding for public safety and fire services, and is committed to protecting local lakes and natural resources.

Xiong has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan Association for Justice, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and and Service Employees International Union - Michigan.

Xiong is running against Republican Mark Thomas Foster who espouses Islamophobia and conspiracy theories on his personal Facebook profile. Character is what you do while you think no one is watching.
