Incumbent Sen. Marko Liias is seeking a fourth term as State Senator representing the 21st Legislative District, where he plans to continue his advocacy for lowering the cost of living, education, healthcare, and transportation policy. He was first elected to the Mukilteo City Council in 2005, appointed to the state House in 2007, and elected to the state Senate in 2014.
In his recent term, Liias has continued his fight to keep the cost of living affordable for residents, including capping annual rent increases, investing more than $800 million to build affordable housing across the state, and expanding the Senior Citizen Property Tax program to an additional 30,000 seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities. He also voted for the historic Millionaires Tax, which will fund K-12 education, deliver tax relief for working families and small businesses, provide free school lunches, and eliminate sales taxes on personal care products, diapers, and many over-the-counter drugs.
As Transportation Committee chair, he supported an additional $1.5 billion for road, bridge, and ferry maintenance, along with funding for flood-damage repair after Snohomish County's 2025 atmospheric-river flooding. Within his district, he secured $206,000 in state capital funding to repair the historic Mukilteo Light Station. He also sponsored legislation to improve permitting efficiency for Sound Transit light rail projects, including the ST3 expansion, to deliver high-capacity transit more efficiently and affordably.
Liias would continue to champion progressive priorities and is the best choice in this race.
