Nilu Jenks is running for Seattle City Council, Position 5. Jenks is the Political and Partnerships Director at FairVote Washington and a board member of Fuse Washington. Jenks is a first-generation Iranian-American with a professional background in building a more representative democracy and pursuing environmental justice. She is also an active advocate against gun violence and co-wrote a racial equity curriculum through her role with Roosevelt Alumni for Racial Equity. Jenks is running a progressive, well-rounded campaign that focuses on improving the quality of life for all. Having experienced the negative impacts of the Fred Meyer closure in Lake City, she supports more local grocery stores and community-owned co-ops to address gaps in food access created by food deserts. Jenks takes a comprehensive approach to public safety that goes beyond just increasing the number of law enforcement. She advocates for 24/7 co-responder teams and implementing restorative justice for survivors of gun violence and trafficking through investments in trauma-informed services, housing, and job training. She also backs efforts to expand the city's affordable housing supply to keep more residents in their homes and prevent displacement and housing instability. Nilu Jenks is a compassionate leader with thoughtful solutions to Seattle's most pressing issues. Her campaign has swept endorsements from several of our progressive partners, making her our recommendation in this race to represent Position 5 on the Seattle City Council.

Electing labor champions who understand the interconnectedness of the various issues facing our city, like labor rights, immigration, housing, and climate change, is critical to making sure Seattle is a city in which workers can thrive. One of Jenks’ top priorities is protecting immigrant rights, for example ensuring local resources are never used to support federal mass deportations. Further Jenks takes the time to meet with District 5 members to talk through concrete policy proposals. Jenks has experience as a community organizer, which is why UAW members can trust Jenks to get consistent feedback from the community and represent what working people need at City Hall — vote Nilu Jenks for Seattle City Council District 5!
