The general election for an open Assembly seat in Queens is unlikely to surpass the primary in terms of interest: in June, Patrick Martinez beat Shamsul Haque by just seven votes. Still, we are eager to see Martinez win more decisively and head to Albany to solve problems for his Western Queens constituents and for all New Yorkers. (The seat is being vacated by Steven Raga, who ran unsuccessfully for the State Senate seat held by retiring Senator Mike Gianaris.) Martinez is currently a district leader, an elected position representing the constituents of Assembly district 30 in Democratic Party decision-making. He has also served as a member of Queens Community Board 2. Professionally, he has focused on tech training and job placement for marginalized communities.
