Rebecca Saldaña got her start by organizing farm workers in WA, and has continued to be a longtime labor ally in Washington, previously serving as a Senator in Washington’s 37th Legislative District. Through her time in the Senate, Saldaña has fought to expand collective bargaining access for workers in Washington, including sponsoring and passing bills for student workers, clearing the pathway for the 2,000 student workers at Western Washington University who organized and joined UAW as UAW 4929. Saldaña is running for King County to have an impact on some of the biggest issues close to home: affordable housing, affordable childcare, and expanding public transit. Saldaña’s organizing experience and knowledge of labor law are critical in a time where workers need to fight the billionaire class and creatively address the affordability crisis. Saldaña has been consistent in upholding her values as an organizer and labor champion. Vote Saldaña for King County Council District 2!

Sen. Rebecca Saldaña is stepping down from the state Senate to run for King County Council, representing District 2. Saldaña served in the state Legislature from 2017 through 2026, after being appointed to the seat following Rep. Jayapal's election to Congress. When she first started in the Senate, she was the only woman of color. She is a lifelong resident of Seattle, the daughter of immigrants, and a former union organizer. Throughout her tenure in the state Legislature, Saldaña was regarded as one of the most progressive lawmakers. She was instrumental in passing labor protections and advancing the Millionaires Tax this past session, a significant effort to balance our upside-down tax code. In our interview, Saldaña identified her priorities as affordability, public safety, and delivering effective public services. Throughout her campaign, she highlights her past accomplishments in the Senate while also focusing on meeting the district's evolving needs. She hopes to continue using progressive revenue funding to push for more affordable housing development while increasing renter protections to prevent eviction and displacement. Saldaña also takes a detailed, systems-focused approach to childcare, treating it as essential public infrastructure. She recognizes that regulatory requirements and startup costs are major barriers to expanding childcare access, and sees this as an area where stronger county-level collaboration could make a difference. Her other priorities include environmental protections and advancing environmental justice for marginalized communities most impacted by climate change, expanding legal defense and worker protections for our immigrant communities, and strengthening our democracy through improved voting access. Her campaign for King County has earned broad progressive support, including endorsements from our partner organizations, elected officials, and community leaders. Rebecca Saldaña has had a reliable tenure in the state Legislature, championing progressive policies since 2017. She is our recommendation in this race for King County Council, District 2.
