We strongly support the reelection of Senator Samra Brouk, first elected in 2020 and now serving as Chair of the Senate’s Committee on Mental Health. The Rochester Democrat prioritizes the exact issues most pressing to New Yorkers both upstate and downstate, and she is bringing a forward-thinking perspective to leadership of the conference. Housing and homelessness, and the connection between them, are a major crisis facing New Yorkers everywhere—and Senator Brouk is a leader on addressing them. She notes in her questionnaire for this Voter Guide that a “housing first approach is one of the strongest tools we can use in this crisis,” connecting the role of stable housing to the goal of addressing mental health diagnoses. Additionally, Senator Brouk has already helped secure funding for infrastructure projects and streets advocacy organizations like Reconnect Rochester. She supports transit, clean energy, and housing policy that will reduce costs and improve communities.
