Senator Sarah Anthony is running for her second term in the Michigan State Senate after serving as a state representative and Ingham County Commissioner.

Born and raised in Lansing’s South Side, Anthony has a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree from Western Michigan University. She worked for nearly a decade at the Michigan College Access Network before joining the State House.

Anthony has made history a number of times. In 2012, she became the youngest Black woman elected to any county commission anywhere in Michigan. She later served three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives. Shortly after being elected to the Michigan Senate, Anthony became the first Black woman ever to chair the powerful Senate Appropriations Committee.

In the Senate, Anthony has worked on issues relating to housing, medical debt relief, healthcare, criminal justice reform, and education.

Anthony has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, Michigan Association for Justice, meets criteria for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan.

Anthony’s opponent in this race is Josh Burns.
