Sean Carlson is a lifelong Michigander, veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, and a retired Air National Guardsman from Commerce Township running to defend a key Democrat-held seat in the Michigan Senate in November.

Sean Carlson is running for his first term in the Michigan State Senate.

After enlisting in the Army at age 17, Carlson later served as an officer in the Air Force and Air National Guard. After retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, Carlson led an organization that helped small businesses do business with the U.S. Department of Defense. As a Huron Valley School Board member and a senior official in two State of Michigan departments, Carlson worked to make governmental systems more efficient and responsive. His track record and work ethic came to the attention of Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter, who named Carlson as a Deputy County Executive.

Carlson wants to return to state government, where he hopes to support the middle class, teachers, veterans, manufacturing, and small business.

Carlson has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan Association for Justice, and meets criteria for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, the Committee to Protect Health Care, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan.

Carlson’s opponent in this race is Ryan Berman. Berman has developed a conservative voting record throughout his time in the legislature, opposing bills that have expanded the rights of workers, women, and voters.

Sean Carlson is the most progressive choice in this race.
