Democrat Rep. Shelley Kloba is running for another term representing Legislative District 1, Position 2, which she has held since her first election in 2016. Kloba previously served on the Kirkland City Council and the Kirkland Parks Board. She has been a long-standing community advocate and worked with the King County Domestic Violence Initiative and the King County Cities Climate Collaboration. Kloba has championed issues such as data privacy, treating gambling addiction as a health issue, and gun safety in the Legislature. She was the prime sponsor of a bill that extended the Expanded Learning Opportunities Council, which increases opportunities for students from low-income backgrounds. She also sponsored successful legislation this year to expand coverage of the paid family and medical leave program, improve public contracting opportunities for women- and minority-owned businesses, and more. More recently, Kloba co-sponsored bills for several progressive priorities, including transit-oriented housing development, rent stabilization, gun safety, and expanding resources for students experiencing homelessness.
