Stan Opal is running for his first term in the Michigan State Senate.

As an Army combat engineer, Opal helped remove land mines in Korea. After returning to the United States, he started a small business, operated a crane in power plants, and joined the International Union of Operating Engineers. A longtime resident of White Cloud, he has served on the White Cloud Area Fire Board as well as local nonprofit boards.

Opal has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: Equality Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, and meets criteria for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan.

Opal’s opponent in this race is Gina Johnsen. Johnsen espouses right-wing views on many issues and has developed a conservative voting record throughout her time in the legislature, opposing bills that have expanded the rights of workers, women, and voters. Johnsen has also been endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan, an anti-choice organization.

Stan Opal is the most progressive choice in this race.
