Sue Shink is running for her second term in the Michigan State Senate, where she chairs the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. Born in a working class family, Shink earned three degrees from the University of Michigan. She was later elected to the Northfield Township Board of Trustees and the Washtenaw County Commission. She became Chair of the County Commission in just her second term on the Commission, leading successful efforts to modernize infrastructure, expand mental health services, protect civil rights, and respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since being elected to the Senate in 2022, she has played a key role in protecting the rights of workers and voters; promoting environmental stewardship; expanding access to healthcare; and investing in education, public safety, and infrastructure. She hopes to continue that work in her second term, along with supporting policies that lower costs for ordinary families. Shink has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: American Federation of Teachers - Michigan. Equality Michigan, Michigan AFL-CIO, Sierra Club - Michigan, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan Association for Justice, and meets criteria for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Michigan, the Committee to Protect Health Care, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan. Shink’s opponent in this race is Tawn Shawnelle Beliger, who has been endorsed by conservative power brokers and anti-vaccine advocates. Sue Shink is the most progressive choice in this race.

EMILYs List recruits, trains and supports Democratic pro-choice women candidates at every level of the ballot. By helping to elect these women to office in 2025 and 2026, we’re not only building a foundation for the future, but we’re also putting strong women in charge of decisions that affect women and families every day — from the legislators who write laws to the attorneys general who defend and enforce them to the secretaries of state who ensure access to the ballot.
