Thushan is running the most detailed pro-housing platform in this race. His plan commits to hitting Alameda's state-mandated 5,353 homes by 2031, prioritizing housing in transit-rich districts and at Alameda Point across affordable, middle-income, rental, and ownership options.

Thusan Amarasiriwardena is a newcomer to Alameda politics but we like his focus on building housing and car-free living. We especially like his goal that Alameda should be a place where every child is able to walk or bike to school safely. Most of all, it seems that Amarasiriwardena is focused on tangible outcomes for residents. He wants to improve housing permitting timelines, developing and meeting transit service goals, and delivering needed infrastructure. This is a refreshing perspective for local government.
