I’m Jonathan Durham, based in Philadelphia. I care about civic engagement, tech, and helping people get more involved in their communities. I’m excited to use Sway to connect locals, share ideas, and make a difference together.
Philadelphia faces a criminal justice system that too often prioritizes punishment over fairness, opportunity, and genuine community safety. Entire neighborhoods are shaped by cycles of incarceration, leaving families and communities struggling to rebuild.
True safety comes from investing in people and neighborhoods, offering second chances, and ensuring justice is applied fairly. Reforming the system is not just a policy issue; it is essential for creating neighborhoods where every resident can thrive, free from fear, and supported in opportunity.
Philadelphia has long been known as an affordable city on the East Coast ... but that’s changing fast. Rents are climbing, home prices are rising, and many longtime residents are struggling to keep up. Housing costs now take a larger share of income for thousands of Philadelphians, putting pressure on families, young professionals, and seniors alike.
We’re living in an age of misinformation, where viral posts can spread faster than facts. From social media rumors to AI-generated content, it’s harder than ever to tell what’s real and what’s not. But our schools can help fix that.
Media literacy, teaching students how to critically analyze information, is no longer optional. It’s a survival skill. And in a city as civically engaged as Philadelphia, it’s essential that our next generation grows up informed, discerning, and empowered.
When students learn how to question what they see online, they become more confident, thoughtful participants in democracy. Teaching media literacy means protecting the truth and strengthening Philadelphia’s civic future.
