Coloradans can already hunt and fish. Amendment 83 is an attempt to place hunting and fishing as the primary and preferred way we manage fish and wildlife. We recommend voting NO on this amendment. - Amendment 83 seeks to prevent us from adapting to current and future conditions. For example, forcing hunting over protecting habitats, bringing back species, or using other ways of managing wildlife. - Amendment 83 applies to all of Colorado, which makes it harder for local communities to address locally specific needs. - Amendment 83 is funded by an out-of-state organization that has been doing this in other states. We should be making policies that work for us and that we can adapt as we need to. We have state law that tasks the Parks and Wildlife Commission to develop rules and regulations for hunting, fishing, and trapping. This process is working well and should continue.

Requires 55% approval because it adds language to the state constitution.
Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado Constitution creating a constitutional right to hunt, fish, and harvest fish and wildlife by traditional methods, including all species of fish and wildlife managed by the state except non-game species, endangered species, or any species that is illegal to hunt under federal law, and, in connection therewith, establishing hunting and fishing as the preferred means of managing fish and wildlife populations; and preserving the right of the state to regulate hunting, fishing, and wildlife management if necessary for sound scientific wildlife conservation and management, public safety, or to preserve the future of hunting and fishing opportunities for all species?
Amendment 83 would establish a constitutional right to hunt and fish using traditional methods and declare hunting and fishing the state's preferred method of managing wildlife populations.
Why Vote YES?
Hunting and fishing are important parts of Colorado's outdoor heritage and contribute to wildlife management and conservation.
Wildlife management should rely on effective, proven practices and the people who spend time in Colorado's outdoors. Hunters and anglers also contribute financially to conservation through licenses, equipment purchases and related economic activity.
Placing these rights in the Colorado Constitution provides an additional safeguard against future government efforts to unnecessarily restrict lawful hunting and fishing.
Position: Protect Colorado's outdoor heritage, individual liberty and responsible wildlife management. Vote YES.
