Stephen Schlaack is running as a Democrat for his first term in the Michigan House of Representatives in the 71st District. Raised in Owosso, Schlaack worked in his family’s print shop in Lennon until it closed down during the Great Recession. Schlaack has worked in the procurement and supply chain fields before coming back to Owosso to manage the Owosso Farmers Market. He volunteers with the Owosso Planning Commission, Alma College Alumni Board, and Rail Passengers Association. Schlaack knows firsthand how ordinary people struggle through economic hardship. That’s why he wants to focus on affordability as well as economic and community development if elected to the House. Protecting farmland, supporting local law enforcement, investing in education, and modernizing our infrastructure are also important priorities for him. Schlaack is running against Republican incumbent Brian Begole. Begole espouses right-wing views on many issues and has developed a conservative voting record in the legislature, including opposing bills that have expanded the rights of workers, women, and voters. She has also been endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan, an anti-choice organization. Stephen Schlaack is the best choice in this race.
