Chedrick Greene is running for his first full term in the Michigan State Senate after winning a special election in May 2026 to fill the remainder of Kristen McDonald Rivet’s term.
Greene’s entire career has revolved around service. The son of a trucker and customer service representative who moved to Saginaw from the Jim Crow South, Greene was born in Saginaw and is deeply embedded in the area. In his 30 years as a Marine Reservist, he was deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom and received a number of medals for his service. For 27 years he was a firefighter in the Saginaw Fire Department, rising to the rank of Captain. He is also an active community volunteer and mentor to youth.
In the Senate, Greene is focused on lowering costs, bringing better-paying jobs to the bay region, expanding access to healthcare, protecting the environment, supporting workers, and protecting the rights and freedoms he once defended in uniform.
Greene has been endorsed by the following progressive partner organizations: Michigan AFL-CIO, the Committee to Protect Health Care, Michigan Association for Justice, and Service Employees International Union - Michigan.
Greene’s opponent in this race is Jason Tunney. Tunney espouses right-wing views on many issues and is endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan, an anti-choice organization. Tunney is under investigation for potentially lying on a Paycheck Protection Program loan application about the size of his business. The loan was one of the 0.1% largest PPP loans made during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Chedrick Greene is the most progressive choice in this race.

As the vice president of his local Crimestoppers chapter, Greene knows that public safety is not a partisan issue and that we must end our epidemic of gun violence with a public health approach. Greene will fight to keep dangerous weapons, like untraceable ghost guns, off of Michigan’s streets and always stand up to the gun industry and its dangerous rhetoric.
