The Anxious Generation Movement is a fiscally sponsored 501(c)(3) led by Jonathan Haidt and a growing coalition of parents, educators, policymakers, and young adults. Our mission is to roll back the phone-based childhood and restore real play, connection, and independence for kids.
Social media is a free-for-all, and it's hurting our kids. We support social media policies that restrict access for minors by providing for parental consent. We also support design requirements that restrict unwanted contact, over-usage, and/or other unwanted experiences amongst youth.
Phone-free schools are working. Students experience improved focus, stronger peer connections, and reduced anxiety when phones are restricted during the school day. We support policies that establish best practices for "bell to bell" phone-free policies, prioritizing students' mental health and development, both academically and socially.
We promote the passage of Reasonable Childhood Independence laws in states across the country. These common-sense laws clarify “neglect” is when you put your kids in obvious, serious danger – not just anytime you take your eyes off them. Support for these bills in states are often unanimous.
