Carolina Mejia is challenging GOP Sen. Drew MacEwen in the 35th Legislative District. Mejia has been a Thurston County Commissioner since 2021 and currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Health. During her time as a county commissioner, Mejia proposed a temporary ordinance to bar new detention facilities for one year, following mass protests against the treatment of immigrants by federal agents at these centers. She is currently running a compassionate campaign to improve community protections and wellness. Recognizing the disproportionate impact of our regressive tax structure on working- and middle-class families, she supports ensuring the wealthiest few pay what they truly owe in taxes. Mejia hopes to reduce red tape and permitting delays that hinder the construction of housing, which is desperately needed at multiple price points, while our supply is dwindling. Some of her other priorities include improving access to rural broadband, affordable healthcare options, and fully funding our public education while investing in apprenticeships and vocational training. Carolina Mejia is a thoughtful leader who is deeply in touch with the community she seeks to represent. She is our choice to be the next state Senator in the 35th Legislative District.
