Rep. Debra Lekanoff is running for re-election to Position 1 in the 40th Legislative District. Lekanoff is one of only two Native American women serving in the Washington Legislature. She previously served as the governmental affairs director for the Swinomish Tribe and now serves as vice chair of the House State Government & Tribal Relations Committee. Lekanoff has been a consistent and reliable progressive voice in the Legislature. She was the prime sponsor of historic legislation creating the nation’s first alert system for missing Indigenous women. She also sponsored legislation to improve coordination between Washington's behavioral health system and the Tribal behavioral health system. Lekanoff has also sponsored and supported legislation to expand "middle housing" options, such as duplexes and triplexes, increase funding for food assistance programs, and establish rapid care teams to support children in crisis. She has also spoken openly about her own experience with addiction, encouraging communities to take a proactive approach to addressing substance use and supporting those in need. More recently, Lekanoff voted in favor of several major progressive priorities, including rent stabilization, law enforcement accountability, and the historic Millionaires Tax. Debra Lekanoff continues to be a strong progressive advocate for the 40th Legislative District and has earned your vote to serve another term in the Legislature.
