Lifelong resident of Ulster County Legislative District #9. Herb has been a civil engineer for almost 50 years, a farmer all his life and was the District #9 Ulster County Legislator for 12 years. He started his civic and professional careers in the same week back in 1977. He has been on numerous committees in the Town of Lloyd including 28 years on the Zoning Board of Appeals and 2+ years on the Town Board. He was elected to county legislature in 2013 and served on several sub-committees. Over that time, Herb sponsored or co-sponsored over 600 legislative resolutions. As a professional, he worked for 25+ years for the NY Department of Transportation in various management positions, 8+ years for the NY State Thruway Authority as the NY Division Assistant Division Director for engineering services overseeing the construction, environmental and bridge inspection units. He then retired and went to work for Consultant Engineering Firms culminating as the lead engineer for the $4 billion new Tappan Zee bridge. He is still working, but in a reduced capacity. When asked why he wants to run again, Herb looks at what the current legislature has done in a few short months and feels compelled to do so. In their first session, they clawed back 1% or $3.3 million from the 33 towns and villages portion of the sales tax to give to Kingston. Now the legislature passed an Ulster County income tax which is a first anywhere in NY State. He believes that residents are overtaxed already, and there are other ways we can provide revenue for the county operations than additional taxes such as smart economic development.
For the past 9 1/2 years, I've been very proud to represent my legislative district and all constituents of Ulster County. I want to continue to hold the county to a standard of fiscal responsibility as well as provide all the necessary programs for the people of Ulster County.
