Marcos Velez is the "dark horse" candidate; a blue-collar worker, union leader who earned the coveted AFL-CIO (labor union) endorsement. Marcos Vélez is a blue collar Texas worker and labor leader who has spent his entire adult life fighting for ordinary people. He believes that every worker deserves dignity and opportunity should not only belong to the wealthy. Priorities include: lowering costs for families, raising wages, support public schools/teachers, protect rural water/farmland while supporting farmers/ranchers, demand corporate transparency/accountability, protecting seniors who live on fixed income.

I became a Marcos Velez supporter when I first heard him say, "people should not be living, not just paycheck to paychek, but overdraft to overdraft," speaking to the concerns the average Texan is facing in a struggling economy as costs of living and gas prices continue to climb.
While i understand that Vikki Goodwin is great on public education and has experience in the TX Lege, I don't see her as the fighter we need to increase the minimum wage or protect Texas workers. Furthermore, as a union negotiator working against some of the most powerful corporations in this state makes Marcos Velez uniquely qualified to work on behalf of Texans to fight Republicans in the Texas Lege.
Goodwin supporters point to the fact that Velez doesn't have TX Lege experience, but neither did Dan Patrick or David Dewhurst. Having direct experience in the Texas Legislators is not necessary for the Lieutenant Governor.
