Rachelle Miller is running for Spokane County Commission District 4. Miller grew up in Spokane, holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Montana and a Master’s in Social Work from Eastern Washington University. She is a licensed Social Worker and business owner who has spent her career navigating bureaucracies on behalf of people in need. Miller is running to stop billionaires and their big tech corporations from planting a new data center here in Spokane County. The Spokane City Council recently passed an emergency moratorium on new large data centers within city limits after Avista, the utility that powers Eastern Washington, received an approach from an unnamed corporation seeking up to 500 megawatts of electricity, equal to half the power used by every home and business in Spokane County. While our city is protected, the County Commissioner controls zoning, permitting, and tax abatements outside city limits. A new data center in Spokane County means the utility bill for working families will go up, the water table will go down, and the billionaires will profit. Rachelle Miller is running to make sure Spokane County residents have a voice before that happens and to ensure Spokane County's water, land, and power belong to the people who live here, not the ultra-wealthy. Given her experience and commitment to protecting working people over big corporations and the opportunity this campaign represents to organize against data centers in the region and expand a progressive voice on our County Commission, we recommend voters choose Rachelle Miller for Spokane County Commission District 4.
