Sen. Tina Orwall is running unopposed for re-election as state Senator in the 33rd Legislative District. After 15 years representing the 33rd District in the State House of Representatives, Tina Orwall was appointed to replace former Senator Karen Keiser in 2025. Before first being elected in 2009, she spent 20 years as a professional in the public mental health systems and held a position in Seattle’s Office for Housing, working to connect people to direct services and resources. During her tenure in Olympia, Orwall has been a strong advocate for survivors of sexual assault. In particular, she has worked to end Washington’s backlog of rape kits and pass legislation to support sex-trafficking victims. Since her appointment, Orwall has continued to be an advocate for mental health and housing initiatives. Last year, Orwall sponsored a bill that would not only provide for social workers in schools but also increase allocations for high-poverty schools. She also sponsored a bill that expanded coverage of the Foreclosure Fairness Act (FFA) to "include homeowners facing foreclosure due to unpaid homeowner association assessments." This year, Orwall was a secondary sponsor of the Millionaires Tax, a significant step towards balancing our regressive tax code and making the wealthy pay what they owe in taxes. She was also a secondary sponsor of the bill to prohibit law enforcement from wearing face coverings, a bill developed in response to rampant federal immigration enforcement that resulted in the murders of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti. Tina Orwall proves herself to be a progressive leader and a compassionate advocate. We look forward to seeing what she accomplishes in her next term representing the 33rd Legislative District in the Washington State Senate.
