Todd Holmes is a Kossuth County native who has dedicated much of his legal career to serving the people of the county he has always called home. Raised in Kossuth County, Todd understands the people, communities, and values that make the county a special place to live, work, raise a family, and do business. Todd has served as Kossuth County Attorney since 2001, bringing decades of legal and courtroom experience to the office. During his tenure, he has prosecuted cases ranging from first-degree murder and other serious felonies to misdemeanors and traffic offenses. As County Attorney, Todd also serves as legal counsel to Kossuth County, advising elected officials, county boards, department heads, and public agencies on the wide variety of legal issues that arise in county government. With approximately 29 years of trial and litigation experience, including extensive experience trying cases before judges and juries, Todd has developed a broad legal background that extends well beyond criminal prosecution. His experience includes civil litigation, personal injury, public-sector employment matters, civil rights claims, environmental and land-use issues, real estate, contracts, wills and trusts, and probate administration. That diverse background provides Todd with the experience necessary to address both the prosecutorial and civil responsibilities of the County Attorney's Office. Todd's experience as a trial attorney has also earned recognition from his peers. He is a Fellow of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers, an organization limited to 250 practicing attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional skill and ability in the courtroom.Todd is licensed to practice law in the State of Iowa and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. For Todd, serving as Kossuth County Attorney is about more than practicing law. It is an opportunity to serve the community that raised him and that he has always been proud to call home. He believes the County Attorney must exercise sound judgment, treat people fairly, support law enforcement and crime victims, protect the interests of taxpayers, and provide county officials with experienced and practical legal counsel. Outside of his law practice and public service, Todd enjoys golfing, fishing, and reading. Most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his wife of 36 years and their four children. Todd is proud to be from Kossuth County and remains committed to providing the people of Kossuth County with experienced, fair, responsible, and independent leadership as their County Attorney.
